MODELE MAGAZINE #826

July 2020

After the Futura V2, Jean-Louis Coussot tried a much wiser FMS model, since it is the smallest of the "Rangers".

Wiser, but technologically really advanced, since the RTF version is equipped with a GPS and a flight controller, capable of straightening the plane automatically, but also of making it return safely above its starting point if the beginner pilot is disoriented.

Some extracts from the text:

"A modern Half-A...

...the good news is the annouced mass : 290 grams!

... If the plane is low when you activate the RTH, the autopilot will make the plane climb at least at 30 meters height, to avoid collision with common obstacles (trees, telephone poles ...).

... The virtual barrier ... takes control and automatically activates the RTH mode ... It is an effective safety feature for a novice pilot learning by himself, and who can avoid the loss of a model.

... FMS has managed to release a lighter "half-A" than what was done for a long time in wood structure, and they have built-in an incredible technology.

... The RTH (automatic return) function works wonderfully.

... Like his two brothers, this little Ranger is a pleasant, sunken plane, flying at a quite scale speed, and capable of moving enough so that a trained pilot does not get bored. "

Erratum :

Note that two errors crept into the review:

- A caption indicates that the transmitter delivered in mode 1 can be modified in mode 2 (only by an experienced modeller)… It is exactly the opposite, the Ranger 850 mm RTF is only available in mode 2.

- The "Well seen / To be reviewed" section noted in the "to be reviewed" that the transmitter is only available in mode 1, again, read mode 2.
